Why Charlottesville?
It’s all her fault. She lived in Charlottesville and designers can design anywhere, so it was goodbye San Diego…hello Charlottesville. Luckily, the new city is as charming as the woman.
Q: WHERE THE HELL IS IT?
Central Virginia, tucked into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The scenery is mondo gorgeous. We’re also 100 miles south of Washington D.C. in case we need to whip some candy-ass politician or visit the National Gallery…which is better than sex.
WHAT IS CHARLOTTESVILLE KNOWN FOR?
Mainly known as the home of the University of Virginia as well as historic figures such as Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, Edgar Allen Poe and William Faulkner.
Presently, Charlottesville has become or been the home of movie stars such as Sissy Spacek and Sam Shepherd, novelists like John Grisham and musicians like Dave Matthews. We tend to leave them be so they like it here.
HOW’S THE WEATHER COMPARE TO SAN DIEGO?
Nothing beats San Diego’s weather. But, Charlottesville did get named the “Best Climate on East Coast” by the American Association of State Climatologists. The only time we miss San Diego is July and August, when you need your own a squeegee.
ANY GOOD PLACES TO EAT?
We’ll let the Washington Post speak to that.
Charlottesville’s food scene stands out. In a city best known for Thomas Jefferson’s architecture, there’s sushi worthy of Nobu in New York (the chef, Bryan Emperor, trained there), rustic but transcendent tapas, plus all the other things a great food town requires: standout bread, real espresso, artisan chocolate and locally brewed beer.
Charlottesville today has more restaurants per capita than any city in Virginia, or possibly France, and is home to the kind of insanely committed foodies who post photos on their blogs…then discuss it online for days.
